Best destiny
Tim Fish / David Brown

Don’t you know I could have been
up there on the silver screen
my face on every magazine
Bodyguards and limousines
leading ladies - naked scenes
starring in every school girl's dreams

But I'd have probably been a real jerk
taken a swing and punched out Steve Spielberg
then sped off in my silver Merc
and spread my head along the kerb
no, I guess it wouldn't have really worked

You know I could have had a band
number one across the land
audience eating out of my hand
Squillions of screaming fans
date a top model with a tan
have my very own clothing brand

But I'd have behaved like a depraved fool
done drugs and quaffed pure rocket-fuel
be found face-down in the pool
the butt of jokes and ridicule
no, I guess it wouldn't have been very cool

But maybe I have peaked and reached my best
and this sleepy arm that’s laying across my chest
is holding me lightly down
keeping me safe and sound
and maybe that’s the best destiny
