My Friend the Cactus
David Brown
My friend the cactus
Is taller than me
Bigger than that bush
Not quite a tree
My friend the cactus
Sports quite a girth
And the pose of Atlas
(without the Earth)
My friend the cactus
I sometimes avoid
He can be tactless
I can get annoyed
But my friend the cactus
Has committed no sin
What don’t attract us
Is his prickly skin
So when you see a cacti holding up his hands high
Don’t shoot him in cold blood
He may be ugly and prickly but he
Just wants to be loved
We all want to be loved, we all want to be loved
We all want to be loved, we all want to be loved
My friend the cactus
Like so many males
Wants to be a mattress
Not a bed of nails
My friend the cactus
Would like to make love
He’s out of practice
And there is the rub
So if you see a cacti standing by the roadside
Be sure to stop and say hi
He may reveal the secret of Tequila
And maybe that will change your life
