On A Sixpence
David Brown
Sometimes the glass is half empty
Sometimes the glass is half full
You can reach for the pitcher
Or see the bigger picture
Ain’t you glad to have a glass at all?
It don’t always turn out like you think
Sometimes you float sometimes you sink
Sometimes your existence can turn on a sixpence
It don’t always turn out like you think
Sometimes it rains on your parade
Dark clouds can lead you to doubt
But whether metaphorical or meteorological
Sometimes the sun just comes out
And it doesn’t matter how much you got to give
True love can prove to be elusive
Hey but today could be the day
Someone lifts that glass to say
“Here’s looking at you kid”
And it doesn’t matter how old you get to be
There’s always opportunity
And the people that you lose
Can be a springboard or a noose
Life is a lottery
Tomorrow is behind a time-locked door
The other side some yearn to know
But tarot cards and tealeaves
Ain’t for them that believes
Dumb luck is running the show |
